William Miller (1782-1849) was an American Baptist preacher who predicted the Second Coming of Christ in 1843-1844. His calculations were based on interpretations of biblical prophecy, particularly the Book of Daniel. Miller’s teachings gained a significant following, known as the Millerites. When the predicted events did not occur, the Great Disappointment led to the fragmentation of the movement, though some adherents persisted. Millerism influenced the development of Adventism.
