The turtledove is attributed magical properties in European folklore. Carrying its heart in a wolf skin was said to suppress emotions, hanging its feet on a tree would prevent it from bearing fruit, and rubbing a spot with its blood mixed with water and boiled mole was believed to cause black hair to fall out.
