Écureuils, or squirrels, hold a significant place in the superstitious hunting practices of the Ural hunters. These hunters believe that squirrels can only be successfully hunted in the tops of red fir trees. If the first squirrel killed in the morning is found on a red fir, they continue their hunt in such trees throughout the day, convinced that hunting elsewhere would be futile. Conversely, if the first squirrel is spotted on a sylvan fir, hunters restrict their search to that type of tree for the entire day.
