Écrouelles, known in English as scrofula, is a form of tuberculosis affecting the lymph nodes, particularly in the neck. According to Delancre, individuals born legitimately with seven males, without any female mix, possessed the innate ability to heal écrouelles by touch. Historical accounts suggest that ancient kings of England, as noted by certain authors, had this healing power. For example, Louis XIII reportedly healed twelve hundred scrofulous individuals at Fontainebleau in 1639 through the royal touch accompanied by the sign of the cross. This practice was believed to have been inherited from earlier monarchs such as Glo Vis, and similar traditions were noted among French kings.
